Elementary SNAG Golf Program

 

Description of Program

SNAG Golf (Starting New At Golf) is a user friendly and “first touch” program to introduce golf to those new to the game.  Activities follow the guide of TPC (Training – Practices – Competitions).  Equipment includes two clubs (Launcher and Roller) and tennis-type balls that cling to Velcro covered targets.  SNAG Golf equipment is playground and gymnasium safe.

Objective of the Program

The objective is to introduce students to all aspects of the game of golf including fundamentals of the golf swing, safety, playing by the rules, how to play the game while teaching life skills and good citizenship. Based upon individual focus and initiative, students will transition from SNAG Golf equipment to sessions using TRADITIONAL golf equipment. 

Location:        On campus with back-up room/gym in the event of inclement weather

Times:             After School during the school week (3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.)

Offered in 4 sessions (one day per week) +

Saturday SNAG Golf Tournaments

Start Date:      Based upon availability of school and Teacher/Coach

Schools are to contact the IRGF to secure dates on the calendar

                        Available Series:   Fall Series – Winter Series – Spring Series

Cost:                $35 per player (includes 4 Training Sessions) + Saturday SNAG Tournaments

                        Make checks payable to:  IRGF  (scholarships available)

Registration:  Students complete REGISTRATION FORM and submit to the Teacher/Coach.

REGISTRATION includes students name, parent or guardian name, signature,

telephone number, e-mail address and anticipated year of high school graduation.

Equipment:    Equipment & golf course set-up provided by IRGF.  School provides equipment storage

Instructors:     PGA Professionals assisted by student and adult volunteer coaches

Note:  School must provide Teacher/Coach to attend each training session + tournament.

Teams:            K – 5th Grades – All interested students may participate in all trainings sessions + the SNAG Golf Tournament on Saturdays.

Competitions:  There will be THREE ACTIVITIES to encourage competitions and interest in golf:

1)  TPC (Training – Practice – Competitions) – After School SNAG Golf

2)  INTRA-SQUAD Team Competitions conducted during the on-campus sessions

3)  SNAG TEAM Tournament Play conducted on Saturdays (4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.)

Locations:  Indian River County Fairgrounds & area golf facilities

Cost:  SNAG Tournaments on Saturdays included in fees (scholarships available)

Upon completion of the SNAG Golf Training Program…..elementary school players will be invited to participate in training sessions using TRADITIONAL Golf equipment…..Mondays at Sandridge Golf Club, Tuesdays at Sebastian Golf Club or Thursdays at Pointe West Country Club….4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
