SCHOOL BASED JUNIOR GOLF TEAMS

Junior Golf Team

The Indian River Golf Foundation (IRGF) is pleased to introduce TPC for Boys (Futures) and TPC for Girls (Futures) – a school-based junior golfer development program of TRAINING, PRACTICES, and COMPETITIONS offered in middle and elementary schools. With the support of a PGA / LPGA Golf Professional, the program features teachers and volunteers serving as Team Managers and Team Coaches. The purpose of the program is to bring new players to the game and to encourage experienced players to form small groups of friends for training, practice, playing golf, fun competitions, and elevations on individual progress. A key ingredient to the School-Based Junior Golf Team concept is affordability. Sessions are conducted on-campus and area golf facilities.

The School-Based Junior Golf Team program is offered in each of four public middle schools in Indian River County…..Gifford, Oslo, Sebastian, and Storm Grove Middle Schools. Beginning in the Fall of 2011, the School-Based Junior Golf Team program will be offered at the elementary school level.

The IRGF trains and works with teachers and volunteers who in turn train students and following a prescribed golf instruction program. It is important the Teacher Coach is an experienced golfer and supported by a PGA / LPGA Golf Professional. Ages of elementary participants are determined by each school.

The program involves Short Game Skills and Full-Swing Skills training sessions including periodic “checkpoints” to determine progress. Play of the golf course is incorporated in practice sessions.

In addition, Combined Middle School Team Skills Challenges are conducted throughout the program…..including Short Game Skills Challenge and Full-Swing Skills Challenge. Sessions are conducted at participating area golf facilities at a pace determined by each school team.
