IRGF - IRGF Training Center Sign 005

At Sandridge Golf Club

The Indian River Golf Foundation (founded in 2008) has recognized the value of a “home” for bringing new players to the game, enhancing the enjoyment of long-standing players, encouraging high levels of player development, honoring traditions of the game while teaching life skills and qualities of good citizenship.

Now after 5 years, the IRGF is pleased to announce the opening of the Indian River Golf Training Center at Sandridge Golf Club. Why Sandridge? In addition to being centrally located, it is one of the finest public golf facilities in southeast Florida featuring 36 holes of championship golf with a full snack bar and outdoor patio, Champion Bermuda grass greens, three spacious practice areas plus an area located on the south end of the practice range for small groups and private instruction. The management team and professional staff at Sandridge Golf Club support golf programs for all ages and skill levels. The Sandridge site represents the main campus of the Indian River Golf Training Center with the possibility of future sites located at golf facilities in north and south county.

Activities at the Training Center will be limited to Sandridge Golf Club approved programs including IRGF sponsored After School Golf Programs, training activities for the IRGF Players Club, Adult/Senior Adult training programs and private golf instruction.  The south end of the driving range is not for the private use of individual players without prior approval from the IRGF or Sandridge Golf Club.

The IRGF has developed a unique series referred to as TPC

(Training – Practices – Competition). Featured are 6-Short Game Skills stations of Curve Putting – Distance Control Putting – Chip Shots – Pitch Shots – Log Shots and Bunker Shots. The Full-Swing Skills features boundaries representing landing areas.

Scorecards are available for self-evaluations or for Players Advantage Golf Skills Challenges.

The newest addition to IRGF training is SNAG Golf. Equipment is available in four lengths…..for the very young to adult and senior adults.

The following is a powerful message in the form of a poem written by Warren Hanson, a gifted writer of books for children and adults alike. This poem was discovered by IRGF founder Roger Van Dyke. The message from this poem helped to keep things going when there were uncertainties in the development of
the IRGF. Although the IRGF takes no ownership in this message….it is offered in the hope youth, adults and senior adults, will be encouraged to keep on going as they face challenges in their life….a Springtime for the Spirit and a reason to Rejoice!

  Imagine…..a Walk in Their Shoes

……..announcing the Indian River Golf Alliance & Seniors for Kids Golf

While talking to high achieving players in the game of golf (juniors and adults….amateurs and professionals), it is interesting to hear how they were introduced to the game……stories of what existed early in their lives that made it possible to remain and grow in the game…… and who were the most influential people that helped them reach high levels of player performance.  When comparing these individual stories, a common thread of ingredients surfaces.  Although there is a full range of experiences that influence the development of young players, seven ingredients stand out as the most common.

The IRGF Model for Player Development

INTRODUCTION

Many of us grew up playing several sports besides golf. In each of them, we had coaches who not only taught motor skills but supervised practices, helped set goals, provided regular feedback and staged drills and game scrimmages to replicate game conditions. The best coaches took long-term views toward player development. Parents, teachers and coaches need to value the long-term development and learning of young players in order to instill the proper patience and mentality for success. Results are best obtained in small increments in long-term relationships. The IRGF has found this approach to be both effective and rewarding with many young players.
